A very warm welcome to all our Y5 children
In year 5, mornings are usually spent on Reading, English and Maths lessons. What about the learning? Theme wise, we will be learning about World War 2, Earth and Space and Islamic Civilisations for example. We will provide you with a rich and diverse curriculum, alongside high quality and inspiring texts to capture your imagination. Have a look at the curriculum overview below if you want to know more about the themes we will be covering throughout the year.
One of our aims in year 5, is to encourage the children to develop their independence and resilience they will need be ready for year 6. To this end, children are expected to contribute to all aspects of classroom life and to take greater responsibility for their own learning.
The children have weekly gospel lessons, to showcase their singing skills in assemblies and hopefully a concert at the end of the year at the Bridgewater Hall.
We will also be having STEM/MFL sessions from Oxplore throughout the year.
Children also have the opportunity to complete a bikeability course and gain a certificate in road safety as well as swimming lessons.
Outdoor learning takes place at Forest School and the children have lots of practical opportunities for hands-on practical activities.
