About Penketh South

Penketh South Community Primary & Nursery School serves the urban area of Penketh, about two miles west of Warrington town centre.

It is a one form entry primary and nursery school which caters for pupils aged between 2 and 11 years.

Initially the current building accommodated junior pupils, with the infant students in the building next door. In the early 1980s, around 1985, the school all moved to the current site and the infant building became a care home. In January 2007, the school opened a Nursery within the school and this has been pivotal to the development of the school. As our nursery has grown, pupils have applied to join the school in Reception and have continued their learning, until they leave in Year 6.

In April 2018 school made the decision to become part of The Challenge Academy Trust (TCAT), after developing highly effective partnerships with the schools involved in this multi academy trust.

History of the Logo

The history of the logo dates back to the Coat of Arms of the Penketh family “Argent, three popinjays Azure, sometimes with a chevron between them (Three kingfishers on a silver background)” which was recorded as being present in a window of the Warrington Friary. Nowadays there are only two representations of the coat of arms of Penketh one was taken from the window of the Warrington Priory and the arms with the white chevron was taken from Warrington Parish Church. Here is a collection of how the Penketh South logo has developed over time.

Guidance to schools highlights that a well-designed school logo can help to:

  • create a sense of unity and pride among pupils and staff

  • establish and maintain a positive image for the school

  • promote the school in the community and beyond

  • make a strong first impression on parents

There have been many sightings of kingfishers near the brook running alongside the school by parents and staff.

The term “community school” traditionally was applied to schools due to their funding  coming from the Local Authority. Since joining a multi-academy trust, our funding now comes from the Trust – TCAT.  However, the community remains at the heart of our school and we will continue to work to build positive links in order for the school to grow and develop in the future.
